As you step over the changing terrains of India, you will come across the various drapes of the sarees. Each drape becomes the symbol of the culture of the region. This six-yard-long unstitched piece of fabric is our pride, and its history dates back to the ancient Indus Valley civilization. While the first mentions of the garment can be found around three thousand BC., it is the artisans' relentless work and people's deep affection for the garment that made it survive the test of time. From Banarasi to block-print, the craft involved in making these sarees a work of art is endless.
At Jaypore, witnessing our country's age-old craft techniques coming together to curate the pink silk saree collection has been an enthralling journey. Each saree in the collection becomes unique with the fusion of the craft's characteristics in the weaving. Bhujodi, Lehriya, and Banarasi are some of the few crafts that have been used to make this collection.
Jaypore's pink sarees are made from the finest silks that drape beautifully, offering a royal and elegant appeal. They are a door to witness the fine craftsmanship of the artisans who sit behind the looms for hours weaving each saree meticulously.
Let us take a look at our collection of sarees:
Banarasi
The Banarasi sarees are known for their luminous appeal, which is achieved through the intricate brocade and Zari works. The craft originated in the ancient city of Varanasi around the fourteenth century. The weavers of that time slowly started integrating silk into the brocade work. Thus shaping the Banarasi craft. The weavers use Zari, which are metallic threads made from silver or gold, to make the motifs and patterns on the sarees. The sarees are made from high-quality silk, offering a smooth texture and lightweight feel.
Taking inspiration from Mughal art, the motifs primarily featured on the sarees are Buttis, intertwining floral and foliate called the Kalga and Bel, and Jhallar design, which is done on the borders of the sarees typical to the craft. Apart from these, traditional geometric motifs, jal, and Meena work can also be observed in the sarees. Over time, these have become wedding essentials that the brides adorn on their special day. Our Banarasi sarees are made from premium silks and feature a mix of traditional and contemporary motifs, making them perfect for any festival or special occasion.
Bhujodi
It is an utter delight to adorn a 500-year-old craft that is known for its colorful motifs. The craft of Bhujodi is practiced in the Kutch region of Gujarat. The weavers of Bhujodi use yarns dyed in various colors to weave the patterns. These motifs or patterns are small, intricate, and geometric in nature. While traditionally, Bhujodi clothing was used to protect oneself from the harsh winters, over time, the weavers started using cotton for the summer days. Depending on the design, it can take days to months to weave a single Bhujodi saree. Our Bhujodi dark pink silk saree drapes are like a dream. It features a fusion of traditional and contemporary motifs, offering a distinct appeal. They are perfect to adorn for any festive or light occasion.
Block Print
Block printing is one of the oldest craft techniques in the world. The craft has been in practice since 3,500 to 1,500 B.C., dating to the Indus Valley civilization. It is a relief printing method where artisans hand-carved wooden blocks to make imprints on the fabric. The artisans first carve out the designs on the wooden blocks. Once done, they prepare the dye, which is mostly made from natural pigments. They then dip the wooden blocks into the dyes and gently set onto the fabrics. Next, they apply pressure on the blocks to leave their imprints on the fabric. While the process may sound simple, it takes the artisans years to master the craft. From mastering the carving technique to placing the blocks precisely on the fabrics to develop the correct prints, block-printing is an elaborate and time-consuming process. Our pink silk block-printing sarees are curated to be worn on any casual or light occasion. This rose-pink saree can seamlessly transition from a day-to-night event.
Chanderi
The beauty of Chanderi lies in its luminous sheen, smooth texture, and lightweight feel. The craft originates from the town of Chanderi in Madhya Pradesh. Due to its strategic location in the older times, it facilitated trade between various regions, making it a cultural and trade hub. Thus providing an opportunity for the weavers to imbibe various cultural influences into the design. Today, Chanderi sarees feature Mughal-inspired motifs, and Zari's work offers the quintessential regal appeal. Our pink Chanderi sarees offer the sheer luster and distinct patterns of Chanderi. These sarees are perfect to adorn for any festive event.
