THE STORY
The soft texture of cotton, earthy tones of blue and brown and silhouettes that fuse a global style with a purely Indian aesthetic…the newest apparel offering from Jaypore helps you stand out everywhere. Made with Kala Cotton, a type of rain-fed, short staple cotton grown in Kutch and promoted by Khamir, the collection resonates with Jaypore’s continued endeavor to promote organic textiles.
Founded in 2005, Khamir works to strengthen and promote the rich artisanal traditions of Kutch district, which were adversely affected by the 2001 earthquake. As one of its endeavors, Khamir promotes Kala Cotton cultivation by facilitating linkages of a sustainable local production chain. A type of old-world cotton, Kala is water-efficient with a low ecological footprint and is grown without any chemical interference making it a very low-investment, low risk crop that produces fine cotton.
