THE STORY
Inspired by the jewelry made and worn by the lambadi tribe of Karnataka, this collection of tribal jewelry carries bold designs in thread and metal, utilising the twisting method 'kasauti' used by the tribe. These pieces have been crafted under the Craft Development Centre (CDC) set up by Sabala to revive traditional lambadi craft and promote self employment.

The Lambadi tribe, who are believed to have descended from Roma gypsies of Europe, travelled miles before they settled in Karnataka. Currently Sabala is involved with 450 women in 20 tribal settlements in Bijapur districts.

Sabala is a voluntary organisation, based in the arid district of Bijapur, North Karnataka, India. The organisation works towards the empowerment of women and children. Set up in 1986, Sabala has been working with widows, destitutes, tribals, physically challenged and economically backward women. The organization has also been working towards rehabilitation of people from the village of Almatti and nearby submerged areas due to the construction of the Almatti dam.
