THE STORY
When women shawl weavers based in Ukimath, near Kedarnath, Uttarakhand, who’ve been weaving silk and wool textiles for many years, extended their skills to cotton, the result was an exciting collection of sarees that marries the beauty of summery cotton with the typical woven patterns seen on traditional shawls of the region! This unique initiative ensures that these weavers have enough work to sustain themselves during long summer months. There are also vibrant dupattas in here, carrying hand block-prints that emulate kantha embroidery and weaves.

Rema Kumar has been working closely with these women artisans on interesting weaving explorations and the result is pure gorgeousness, for where else do you get to see summer cotton drapes with herringbone and twill weave, all of which are so typical of winter textiles!

Rema Kumar, a textile designer based in Delhi, has been working with a large cross-section of weavers and master craftsmen along the length and breadth of India for almost two decades. Her focus has always been integrating tradition with novelty, by using vibrant colors and designs and constantly encouraging weavers to think out of the box.

With an experience of over 20 years in textile design, that were never restricted to one particular state or region, Rema has mastered the art of fusing various weaves in Cotton, Silk, Tussar and Wool with indigenous surface detailing techniques like Kalamkari, Kantha, Patti Ka Kaam, Mukaish, Chikan, Cutwork, Bandhani, Batik, Ajrakh, Hand Block Prints, Ari-work, Soof Embroidery, Mirror-work, to create collections that are truly one of a kind.
