THE STORY
Perfectly symmetrical patterns you see on the cushion covers, tassels on table runners with not a thread out of place...awestruck by the precision and attention to detail? What'll surprise you further is that, these aren't machine-made but deftly handwoven by the tribal women of Nagaland, often during time squeezed between their household chores. Following a contemporary, minimal aesthetic and zero waste design, each piece in this elegant home capsule by Woven Threads is a labor of love. The brand is a design initiative that supports and encourages women weavers from the northeast, gives them a platform to innovate with their designs and preserves their unique weaving tradition.
The women weavers work through a special weaving process known as the loin loom technique. Also known as the back strap tension loom, loin loom is a frameless loom which has a back strap and a belt passing through the weaver’s back, secured around her lower waist.
