Midnapore Pattachitra are literally scrolls painted on paper, stuck on cloth. The materials used are all indigenous and inexpensive, coming from vegetable, earth, and mineral sources. The themes are usually popular Hindu deities and saints, epic and Puranic anecdotes, folktales and myths, incidents of daily life - farming, dancing, playing music, and different species of Indian fauna. The same artists have begun painting on brassware, wood, bamboo, cloth and ceramics, using enamel and acrylic paints, but adhering to their themes and style of old. Tejas gallery is partner to this initiative and is helping the artists to re-conceptualise and re-invent their artwork and medium. These bamboo fans, made in Malda and painted in Midnapore, are a hot-selling item both for keeping the heat away, and for displaying on walls or in vases.Price is listed for 2 fans. The colors displayed on your screen may be different from the actual color, as the exact color you see depends on your screen settings.
