Jaypore Journeys, in collaboration with Breakaway, presents a curated journey amidst the forts and printed fabrics of Jaipur- where golden sands, indigo skies and crimson forts find an echo in its traditional fabrics.
Enliven your trip with a visit to master craftsmen and award-winning printers who will walk you through beautiful Bagru, and Indigo printing traditions of the desert kingdom.
Jaipur is a colourful city with a majestic past. It's deep, storied history rubs shoulders with modern life on its enthralling streets, the arresting beauty of its architecture and a delectable cuisine. The splendours of this historic city come alive in its palaces and bazaars lined with sparkling silver jewelry, shimmering zari accents and intricate block-prints that tell unique stories.
As a gateway to Rajasthan, the Pink City promises fairy-tale grandeur evoking the charms of a place from another world and time.
Painted in Pink in 1876, Jaipur is famous for its printed textiles. The traditional Jaipur print is synonymous with big and small bootis, or jaals and borders carry repeated patterned floral designs seen in today’s Bagru and Sanganer prints.
Our first look into Jaipuri textiles is in Bagru, known for natural dyes and hand block printing. A trip to the iconic workshop of a master craftsman and award winner Bagru and Indigo artist, where we start our intellectual expedition into the craft of Bagru printing, once only seen on Rajasthani skirts known as ghagras and scarves called odhnis for women.
A visit to a traditional block maker and printer provides us a peek into his collection of exquisite brass blocks, hand blocks which are no longer available and are priceless. As our eyes get fixated on the intricate sharpness of every carving, we get sensitized to the painstaking time and effort involved in each stage of the production process.
We visit the Anokhi Museum which opened in 2005 after renovating a Haveli built in 1989, displaying a variety of hand printed textiles from all over India. Here we get a curated walk through, with a textile expert who gives us an insight into the traditions and historical relevance that has shaped contemporary revival of traditional textiles.
We walk around the City Palace and tour the Mubarak Mahal, the textile museum of the palace reflective of Islamic, Rajput and British architectural design and ornamentation.
Indulge the shopper in you through a walk in the by-lanes of the local bazaars and a heritage walk through old Jaipur. Also visit some hidden gems of stores in Jaipur. These are not on the regular tourist beat, and house some of the finest in silver, contemporary craft and textiles, that Jaipur has to offer.
Bask in the hospitality and luxuriousness Rajasthan has to offer as we dine at the Amer Fort , set in red sand stone and white marble, a palace built for the Mughal Dynasty in the 1500’s that fuses both Hindu and Mughal architecture. The meal is offered in a tradition rajasthani thali with 10 small dishes set around kashmiri rice and piping hot naans!
Immerse yourself in a riot of colours thanks to Jaipur’s beautiful textiles, age old printing techniques and old world glamor.

Information on the journeys will be detailed enough for you to determine which might appeal to the whole family. If there is a lot of long travel, walks on undulated terrain required, it will be specified in our detailed itineraries. If looking for wheel chair friendly travel, please check with us on what options we can recommend.
We loved our day with your guide. She was wonderful, gentle and much more than a guide. Since she does the work herself, she was as interested in seeing what we were seeing as we were and that made the experience much richer. We had a lovely day, and I certainly will spread the word to my fibre friends!

I want to write to you and thank you for an inspiring journey. We are very pleased, all the exciting and interesting people we have met. We have had many experiences, I have learned a lot, both about handicraft but also about the country. It will take a while to digest all the impressions. We have felt very well taken care of.

Given our friend Susan Weltman's recommendation we had the highest expectations of our trip. These were equaled and exceeded. We could not have asked for a better experience. The several hours we spent exploring the planned core of Jaipur with the guide, were a gem. We stopped at shops, stepped into the entrances of havelis, and chatted with the Muslim bangle maker -- all without feeling like intruders and while sharing this pious young woman's appreciation of her beautiful neighbourhood.
