Back in the Indus Valley civilization, we get the first reference to an unstitched long clothing fabric that closely resembled today's dupatta. Odhani, Uttariya, Chunariya, and Pichhauri are some of the few regional names for the dupatta. What makes the dupatta more interesting is the age-old traditional weaving techniques with which these are woven. Each region has its own distinct craft technique, which is seamlessly incorporated into the dupattas.
For Jaypore, curating a collection of purple dupattas has been a delight. Using traditional craft techniques, each dupatta features unique motifs, patterns, and textures that can instantly elevate your appeal. Bandhani, block-print, Ikat, and Jamdani are some of the crafts that we have used to make this collection.
Jaypore's purple dupattas are made from the finest of silk, cotton, cotton silk, Kota, and more. Along with a soft-to-the-touch feel, they are also lightweight, making them effortless to carry. Let us look at our collection:
Bandhani
The history of Bandhani is as old as that of the Indus Valley civilization. This thousands of years old tie-and-dye craft is known for its minute geometric prints. The artisans sit for hours folding the fabric and then tying them together and then dye them. The folded and tied part of the fabric remains undyed while the rest of the fabric is dyed. Thus creating unique Bandhani patterns on the fabric. Our Bandhani dupattas also showcase the same patterns and are fit for any festive occasion.
Block Print
The ancient technique of block-printing uses carved wooden blocks to make imprints on the dupatta. First the artisans carved out the design on the wooden blocks which is then followed by the preparation of the dye. They then dip the blocks into the dyes and place them onto the fabrics. After the application of pressure on the wooden blocks, what is left are the beautiful imprints on the fabric. It takes years for the artisans to master. From carefully carving out the design to placing it on the fabric, block-printing is an elaborate process of making the prints. From block-printed light purple dupattas to darker ones, our collection is perfect to adorn any festive or casual occasion.
Hand Embroidery
There is nothing like adorning a hand-embroidered dupatta. The beauty and elegance of the intricate threadwork instantly elevate your appeal. The embroidery is done in contrasting colours, yet subtle in nature. This dupatta is perfect for any formal or casual occasion.
Handwoven
The texture of a handwoven dupatta is one of those special moments. The delicate weave of these dupattas makes them a delight to wear, where you get comfort and fuse them into one. This collection features various shades of dupatta meant to suit various occasions.
Ikat
The craft of Ikat originated in Indonesia. Soon, it spread to various regions of Asia and eventually arrived in India. Here, it effortlessly blended with the existing crafts, developing its unique character. Ikat is known for its weaving pattern. The weavers first resist-dye the yarns before the weaving process. Once done, they then carefully set them in the handloom. This is the most labour-intensive and crucial part as it decides the weaving pattern. It takes days for the weavers to complete one piece. Our Ikat dupattas feature contrasting weaving patterns and are perfect to pair with kurta sets for any formal or casual occasion.
Jamdani
The Jamdani weave is iconic for being one of the softest fabrics in the world. Its complex weaving technique uses a complementary weft to make the designs. This produces a soft and lightweight fabric that is comfortable to wear. Our Jamdani dupattas are suitable to adore for a variety of occasions.
Kantha
Kantha originated in undivided Bengal. The artisans use simple running stitches to make intricate designs on the fabric. Out Kantha, the dupatta features elaborate floral threadwork that is perfect for any light occasion.
Maheshwari
Our lustrous and feather-light Maheshwari dupattas feature Zari work on the border. These can be paired with various outfits and for various occasions.
Shibori
