Sarees have transcended the fashion norm to become an enduring symbol of cultural heritage. It is the bridge between past and present that has woven the rich tapestry of Indian culture and craft into one. Probably, no other women's clothing is as popular, elegant, and versatile as a saree. With the changing landscape of the country, changes the style, drape, and craft of these six yards. Each being unique represents the cultural identity of the region. Peeping into history, we come face to face with political leaders, artists, mothers, and daughters who, while draping a saree, have shaped the history of the country.
Curating a collection of modal sarees for women for Jaypore has been a journey of pride and joy. Made from the pulp of the beech trees, modal sarees drape beautifully and are a great option for all seasons. Taking these sarees a notch higher, we have used India's diverse age-old traditional craft techniques to design them. Ajrakh, Bagh, and Shibori are just a few of the crafts that we have used to make this collection. Thus, it also helps preserve the country's rich craft environment.
Jaypore's modal sarees are a perfect blend of comfort, craftsmanship, and culture. Each saree features unique prints created using indigenous traditional techniques. Thus, offering you versatility.
Ajrakh is the process of resist dyeing and block-printing dating back to the Indus Valley civilization. This traditional craft has continuously been in practice since then. The cluster is mostly concentrated on the western frontier of the country, namely in the region of Kutch in Gujarat and Rajasthan. The artisans use a mixture of vegetable dyes and natural resistant paste and block-printing methods to create distinct prints associated with the craft.
The natural substances used in the process comprise castor oil, camel dung, myrobalan (powder of Harde tree nuts), jaggery, tamarind paste, and more. After the artisans have applied different layers of the natural resistance through block-printing methods, they are dried. In the next step, the fabrics are dyed of different colors and boiled, revealing a myriad of vibrant colors.
Our modal Ajrakh sarees are made from the finest of fabric. They showcase the craft's earthy colors of red, indigo, and more, making it quintessential wear. From casual to light occasions, these can be draped for various occasions.
The craft of Bagh originates from the craft's namesake town in Madhya Pradesh. Known for its versatile traditional motifs in black or red on a white or cream-colored base, Bagh involves block-printing and dyeing to achieve its distinct motifs. Once the fabric is de-starched and prepared for further processing, the artisans then dye the fabric to achieve the base color. Once it is dried, the artisans then use pigments and dyes made from natural substances to make the imprints on the base fabric using wooden blocks. The fabric is then dried, revealing vibrant colors and patterns.
Using this age-old technique, our Bagh sarees are made. The sarees feature traditional floral and geometric prints on light and darker backgrounds, offering a unique touch to the craft. From formal to light to festive, these sarees are ideal to drape on various occasions.
There is something about a handwoven saree that is unmissable. The magic of these sarees lies in their waves. The weavers sit behind the handloom for hours, weaving meticulously. These offer the sarees the finest of texture and the softest of feel. From quintessential silk to elegant cotton, our handwoven sarees are the epitome of grace. These sarees are perfect for any festive or celebratory moments.
Shibori is a Japanese tie-and-dye craft that originated centuries ago. It eventually spread to various regions of Asia, eventually reaching India. In our country, the artisan effortlessly adopted it and added a distinct traditional touch to it, making Shibori's famed abstract patterns unique. The artisan first ties the fabric and then dips it in dyes. After drying the fabric, the ties are removed, revealing elaborate patterns.
Our Shibori sarees use the same technique. These sarees are available in light and bright colors that are perfect for adorning any casual or light occasion.

The grace and elegance of a saree is enough to make you look beautiful. What you need is to match the other elements of your outfit a bit. Let us take a look at some of the style tips that you can consider:
Sarees need your care and attention to maintain them properly. Given the delicate works on sarees, always make sure that you read the wash care label thoroughly before washing them. For sarees made of delicate fabrics like silk or intricate works, opt for dry cleaning them. This will help avoid any kind of damage. You can gently wash durable fabrics. However, never use any type of harsh chemicals on them as this will cause abrasions. Make sure to dry them under the shade to retain the original color.
Storing the sarees properly is an essential aspect of keeping the sarees in a healthy condition. Keep them in a dry, moisture-free place. Moreover, if you have not worn your sarees for a long time, change their folds. This avoids fraying and permanent fold marks. A good practice for any spillage or stain is to immediately spot-clean them. Use a moist, soft, clean cloth to gently rub it off.
