Let us take a look at our collection:
Ajrakh is among the ancient crafts of the Indian subcontinent. Believed to have originated in the Indus Valley civilization, the craft is still largely practiced in the country. The main cluster, however, can be found in the western parts, namely, Rajasthan and Gujarat. What makes this craft unique is its technique. The artisans use dyeing and block-printing methods to make the distinct prints of the craft.
With multiple stages of resist dyeing and printing, the artisans use natural materials like camel dung, jaggery, Myrobalan (powder of Harde trees’ nuts), Babool trees’ resin, tamarind paste, and more to make the resist dyes and block print them on both or single sides of the fabric. Once these resists are applied and dried through multiple stages, the fabric is then dyed with indigo, madder root, Henna, Rhubarb root, and more to impart various colors. After boiling and washing the fabric, what is left behind are beautiful motifs and rich colors.
Using the same age-old traditional technique, our Ajrakh men’s pure cotton shirts are made. These shirts are available in dark and earthy colors that can be worn for casual, semi-formal, formal, or light occasions.
Applique is a patchwork technique used for centuries to create delicate patterns. The artisans use pieces of fabric or cutouts to sew them on the base fabric, creating intricate designs. Our collection of Applique shirts uses the same technique to create cotton shirts. These shirts feature geometric patterns and are made in light and deep colors to suit various occasions.
Bagru, originating from the namesake town in Rajasthan, is known for its mud-resist technique of block printing and dyeing. It requires the most skilled local master artisans to make the distinguished prints of Bagru. The motifs are usually inspired by the region’s folklore, flora, fauna, etc.
The process of Bagru involves several steps to achieve the desired patterns. First, the artisans prepare the fabric. Once it is prepared, they apply a mud resist on the cloth, usually using a seasoned teak wooden block. A precise calculation is required to make the prints by placing the wooden blocks. Once the resist is applied and dried, the fabrics are then dyed and washed, revealing beautiful colors.
Our Bagru cotton shirts use the same technique to reveal beautiful motifs and patterns. The shirts are available in pastel hues, which are ideal for any casual or light occasion.
While originating from Indonesia, the craft of Batik has seamlessly been integrated into the existing craft environment in India. The craft involves resist dyeing techniques with the help of wax. The artisans first apply wax on the fabric in the patterns they want. Once done, the cloth is dyed in vibrant colors. Once dried, the wax is removed, displaying elaborate patterns. The process can be repeated multiple times depending on the pattern. While dyeing, the wax may crack at a few places where the dye can seep in. Thus, offering the unique appeal of Batik.
Our batik shirts are available in traditional and contemporary prints, offering a playful vibe. These are ideal for any casual or light occasions.
One of the ancient craft techniques in the world, block printing, is the technique of using carved wooden blocks to make elaborate prints. It has been in use since the Vedic period and is still widely popular across the country. The artisans, after finalizing the designs, carve it onto the wooden blocks carefully. They then prepare the dyes and fabric. Once the dye is ready, the artisans dip the wooden blocks into the dye and then place it onto the fabric. This is a crucial step, as misplacing the wooden blocks will ruin the print. The fabrics are then washed to reveal beautiful patterns. Based on the design, the process may be repeated multiple times.
Our block-printed cotton shorts for men feature light and earthy colors. They are ideal for any casual or light occasion.
The craft of Chikankari was first practiced in Lucknow. The technique was brought by Mughal Empress Nur Jehan from Persia. She widely popularized and encouraged the local artisans to practice it. Originally, the technique involved sewing white-colored thread on muslin, creating beautiful motifs. These motifs chiefly consisted of Buttis, petals, leaves, and more. With time, the artisans have incorporated colorful threads on various fabric materials as well.
Our Chikankari cotton shirts are made from the finest of cotton, featuring geometric, floral, and contemporary motifs. The collection is available in light and pastel colors, which are perfect for formal and casual events.
Dabu is a mud resist and block printing technique. The artisans block prints the fabric using carved wooden blocks. Once done, they apply a mud resist on the fabric as per the design. In the following process, they dip the fabric into the dye, revealing beautiful patterns.
Our shirts in the Dabu collection feature elaborate prints in vibrant colors. They feature a mix of traditional and geometric prints ideal for casual occasions.
Embroidery is one of the oldest techniques that are still widely popular today. Such a simple technique of sewing the thread can produce elaborate and intricate motifs. Our embroidered cotton shirt collection features minimal and elaborate motifs. They are available in light and deep colors and are suitable for various occasions.
The soft texture of handwoven shirts has always caught everyone’s attention. Available in light, earthy, and bright colors, these shirts are apt for any formal and casual occasion. The collection features a wide array of motifs in geometric and contemporary styles.
The craft of Ikat, while originating in Indonesia, was effortlessly adopted by the local artisans, who further added traditional styles to it. The process of Ikat involves resisting dyeing the yarns before weaving. Once the yarn is dyed, it is meticulously put on the handloom as per the design. This is a crucial step as it determines the weaving pattern that it will produce. The weaving process can take days to weeks to complete one piece. Such is the intricacy of the craft and pattern. The Ikat is known for its blurry hypnotic patterns, which are often geometric in nature.
Our Ikat pure cotton shirts for men showcase the craft’s typical patterns. Available in pastel and deep colors, these shirts are ideal for any casual or formal occasion.
The craft of Kalamkari has been in practice for hundreds of years. The craft was first practiced by the artisans in the present-day Andhra Pradesh and Telangana regions. It involves the artisans using reeds made from bamboo or palm leaves to draw elaborate patterns. Slowly, it developed into two distinct styles- Srikalahasti and Machilipatnam. The Srikalajasti style is still rooted in the original style of using the reed to draw the motifs. As for Machilipatnam, the style has evolved to include a block printing method to create the patterns.
The motifs of the craft represent the regional flowers, animals, and scenes from the epic Hindu mythologies. The artisans produce elaborate and intricate patterns that catch the attention instantly. Our Kalamkari shirts are crafted using the same technique. The motifs featured range from flowers and paisley to contemporary ones. These are perfect to adorn for any casual or light occasion.
